Catalina Restaurant

My husband and I just enjoyed a beautiful 34th Anniversary lunch. He loved the anchovies, could have had seconds, I loved the Coral Trout Crudo, and we both enjoyed the Snapper. Lovely setting and excellent & very pleasant staff….perfect for our “special” celebration.

Thanks team. Sometimes is easy to forget that we are very lucky to live in Sydney with abundance of amazing restaurants. Different cuisines.. fresh seafood and most of all many restaurants with beautiful views. Which also mean, we don't always return to the same restaurant so soon. Catalina is one of them. We haven't been to the restaurant for awhile now, so happy to be back. Celebrating our anniversary, hubby chose this restaurant. Slightly gloomy and overcast weather and luckily no rain. We chose 3 courses plus starters as well. Definitively over ordered again. Everything was fresh and well balanced flavour besides my squid ink entree was a tad too salty. Otherwise all the dishes were delicious. Plenty of options to order from the menu. Special shout out to the fresh nectarine Bellini cocktails from the trolley. It was refreshing and definitely a good way to start our meal. Due to the weather, all the glass doors were closed and tables were set up inside so the noise level was louder than usual and the space were tighter than normal. Overall we had a wonderful lunch.

Catalina offers a truly outstanding location, complemented by an impressive wine list featuring prestigious producers such as Coche-Dury and Leflaive. The cuisine demonstrates excellent technique, with precise cooking and well-judged seasoning throughout. That said, there appears to be some inconsistency in quality between dishes. In addition, the level of service fell short of expectations on several occasions. Despite ordering a bottle of wine, empty glasses were often left unattended without being refilled, suggesting a lack of attentiveness from the service team. Overall, Catalina feels just a few steps away from reaching true grand-maison standards.

This place has delivered years of outstanding quality, and it only keeps improving. The staff are kind and always smiling, and there’s a real sense of class without any of the snobbery you find elsewhere. The owners truly know how to make their customers feel at home. I’m also grateful that the pricing has stayed affordable over the years for such incredible food. The service is absolutely top notch.

I cannot thank the team at Catalina enough for providing what was truly an unforgettable experience. We arrived spontaneously straight from the tennis courts at Royal Sydney—in casual tennis gear—around 2,3 PM. Despite our casual appearance and the late hour, the staff welcomed us with open arms and friendly faces. This was a milestone day for my good friend. The food was easily the best I’ve had in NSW. We enjoyed everything! To name a few we had: The SA squid and royal red prawns, coral trout crudo, fresh oysters, the Sydney Rock lobster risotto, snapper, and the incredible broccolini mix. We even had a dessert cocktail that tasted like a cheesecake—only better! The $300 bottle of wine was so splendid we had to order a second. Every single staff member, from the bar to the floor, was polite, kind, and went out of their way to make us feel special. Sitting outside under the shade with that spectacular Rose Bay view and a clear sky was the perfect setting for a 5-hour long celebration. Thank you for helping me create endless memories for a friend who truly deserved it. Highly recommended!

This was a flavourful experience overall. The food was absolutely delicious, in particular the crudo and the toothfish. Service was excellent and the staff friendly. Drinks menu quite extensive and bar staff knowledgeable. This was the perfect spot for an extended evening- we were there for two and a half hours. I would highly recommend.

The highlight of dining at this restaurant is most definately the view. The food was generally good, we enjoyed our mains the most, our starters were just okay. My coconut strawberry dessert was nice however, my partners pavlova was just okay. Considering the price of the restaurant I would have expected more. Service was mixed, because we consistently had so many different servers, things were explained or asked of us multiple times.

We had an exceptional dining experience and truly cannot recommend this place enough! The staff were incredibly attentive and warm, ensuring we felt welcome from start to finish. Every dish was sublimely prepared and artfully presented, complemented perfectly by the gorgeous décor. We were celebrating a birthday, and the outdoor table I requested months in advance was waiting for us - it truly elevated the evening. All in all, a flawless meal. We will definitely be back!
